How to Boost the Absorbency of Your Towels

February 29, 2024

If you want to ensure your towels are soaking up moisture like a champ, we've got you covered!

First things first, let's talk laundry essentials. If your laundry detergent includes fabric softeners, steer clear of using it on your towels. Why, you ask? Because those softeners create a barrier on the towel fibres, causing water to slide right off instead of being absorbed. Not ideal for drying off after a refreshing shower, right?

To rejuvenate your towels and restore their maximum drying power, follow these simple steps:

Step One: Vinegar Rinse

Begin by washing your towels with warm water and vinegar. Add 1 cup of plain white vinegar (the cheap home brand vinegar works perfectly!) to the rinse cycle. For top-loading washers, dilute the vinegar in a small bucket of water before adding it, or wait until the water level is high enough to dilute it instantly. If you have a front loader, pour the vinegar into the fabric softener compartment, and let the machine do its thing during the rinse cycle.

Remember to wash your towels separately from other laundry items.

Don't rush to dry your towels just yet; we've got another step to go.

Step Two: Bicarb Boost

For the second round, wash your towels again with warm water, this time adding ½ cup of Bicarb Soda to the rinse cycle. Follow the same precautions as before.

After this wash, feel free to dry your towels as you normally would. We recommend tumble drying if you're aiming for extra fluffiness!

A Word of Caution: Do not mix vinegar and bicarb in the same wash, as they serve different purposes. Vinegar freshens up towels, removes detergent residue, and restores absorbency, while bicarb softens towels, tackles stains, and eliminates odours.

By following these steps, you'll breathe new life into your towels, ensuring they're always ready to absorb moisture efficiently. And remember, always wash your towels separately for best results. If you notice a decline in their drying power over time, simply repeat these steps as needed.

Here's to happy and effective drying sessions!
